“Lovely Lodge and well equipped with everything we needed - loved the log burner ! kept us warm and cosy. Fishing lake was fantastic and the ground beautiful - enjoyed peaceful breakaway from the fireworks which my pup appreciated - ale down at the California Inn and excellent food every time”

We liked the coastal walks around Macey cove to mill cove and crabbing at Salcolme.

Best restaurant was the Oyster Shack - had a fantastic meal there… definitely need to book in advance as we booked the last lunch slot 2 days before going.

Best walk - Burrator reservoir (from a car park at the north east of the lake, next to a small bridge over a stream). We walked up from there and got a great view of the reservoir and over the moor”

..... we most enjoyed your recommended trip to Salcombe via Southsands and the ferry across. The children really loved that and Pennywell Farm. The latter being excellent for wet days indoor play and a free return if raining more than half and hour. We also had a fantastic meal at the Oyster Shack. Very kiddie friendly and relaxed with great food.”

“We really enjoyed our visit to the Colmer Estate, especially the pools, tennis & grounds. The Lodge was lovely as was the enclosed garden.
The area had a lot to offer. Some of favourite eating places include the Ring Feeder cafe & farm shop, in a lovely spot, allows dogs inside & out and very close by. The Oyster shack was a particular favourite. The Turtley Corn Mill in Avonwick has lovely gardens, roaming hens & peacocks, the food is very good.
The beaches were very good, Bigbury on sea, which allowed dogs on part of the beach. North sands which allowed dogs & the cafe , the winking pawn serves good food.”

“Fabulous Lodge - a home from home ! - 3rd time staying at Colmer & this is the best accommodation by far. Loved North Sands in Salcombe for dog friendly beach and winking prawn for great lunch....... - will definitely be back next year ”

“The estate and lodge were absolutely fantastic, immaculately clean,wonderful amenities on site the whole family loved the 2 pools the kids went swimming everday inside and outside the park area and play house is great for little ones ,lovely walks on the estate and the beaches within 20/25 minutes drive of the estate were fantastic,the estate is set In beautiful countryside but so near to days and trips out ,we went on the Dartmouth steam railway and river cruise went to goodrington sands and Quay West waterpark both only 30 minutes drive from the estate, Blackpool beach is a must day out beautiful clear blue water great cafe ,surf shop ,immaculate toilets and showers ,I would highly recommend colmer estate to anybody ,it’s definitely a 5 star holiday ,we had one of the best holidays we have ever been on and will definitely be booking again”

“We had a great time at your lovely lodge. It was well equipped, clean and comfortable for our stay. All the information you provided prior to our arrival was really useful. The instructions you gave for shopping delivery were great and meant we practically met the delivery van 5 mins after we arrived.

Both pools were excellent, my older son particularly loved the indoor pool sessions as we had the place to ourselves so for a 5 year still learning to swim he had the confidence to practice in an empty pool. The grounds we immaculate and we were impressed with how tidy and well kept the whole estate was. We met the gardeners who were busy keeping the bushes and grass tidy. ”

“We had a great time and spent many hours in the outdoor pool. We played tennis a few times and the court was always free. During the middle of the day facilities were very quiet so on 2 days we just stayed on site and mostly had the pool to ourselves ........

Our favourite beach was Bigbury beach as the water was shallow so good for swimming with the kids. I saw some very large spider crabs! Milton Sands was good although maybe best left for those who own a dog!

We ate at the Oyster Shack one night which was good.”

“We had such a fabulous week! The lodge is wonderful, the pool, grounds..all of it, absolutely brilliant.

We particularly liked Hope Cove, so beautiful. We had a couple of lovely meals at the Cali Inn and also the Crab Shell in Kingsbridge.

“We had a brilliant family holiday at your lodge.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pools, which were a fantastic amenity to be able to entertain the 2 boys (age 5 and 7). I fished the small lake twice on site and caught many small fish, much to the delight of my eldest grandson. The garden at the lodge was attractive and a very private relaxing space, where we had 2 family bbq’s.

“We enjoyed our week at Colmer very much, thanks. The Lodge was very comfortable and we thought it was probably the nicest property on the Estate. The kitchen was very well equipped and the garden was ideal, especially given the lovely weather in Devon last week. In terms of the Estate facilities, the outdoor pool was the high point for me and in terms of local attractions, our favourite place to visit was Dartmouth. The best food we had out was at the Manor Inn in Galmpton. We would strongly consider coming back at some time in the future, as we’ve only scratched the surface exploring South Devon.”

“We had a really good time at The Lodge which was the perfect place for our cross-generational group! The children had a blast in the wonderful pools and made friends with others staying there. We left a note in the guest list of places we enjoyed - Salcombe, Greenway Ferry Dartmouth - an hour long trip for just £5, Bigbury Beach and a lovely meal at Turtley Corn Mill. I forgot to add in the book that the children loved Splashdown Water Park in Paignton.

“We liked the Lodge. Well equipped and comfortable. We made good use of the log burner!! We took the ferry over from Salcombe and walked around the headland to the Gara Rock Hotel for lunch - that was very good. We also did the Gin School in Salcombe - good but very expensive (it was a present to me!). The Oyster Shack was also good.
We did a wine tasting at Sharpham which I would highly recommend.”

“We had a lovely break, which felt much needed …… the weather in Devon on the whole was pretty good, so got to spend a lovely morning walking at Bantham beach and another up on Dartmoor climbing Yar Tor from Dartmeet. We also had a fantastic lunch at the Beachhouse at South Milton Sands.

We crammed loads in. The weather was particularly kind on the day we went to Dartmouth and did the suggested boat trip - we went to Blackpool Sands after which was lovely too. Still warm enough for sea swimming (was very calm). Cycling at Saltram too.”

“Just to say that we had a brilliant holiday, and The Lodge was absolutely great – really comfortable and well appointed.

It was lovely having our own private garden, and of course the facilities at The Colmer Estate in general were great.  To be honest, they were so good, and we were so lucky with the weather, that we didn’t go out and about every day as we’d normally do on a holiday in the UK, but made the most of everything where we were, just relaxing and playing lots of table tennis and tennis – and also swimming quite a bit in the outdoor pool, which I’d never normally do on a UK holiday! ”

“We had a wonderful time at the Lodge - your home and garden are fabulous and perfectly located to visit Devon beaches and Dartmoor. We spent the sunny days at Hope Cove - a particular favourite of ours for years ....... On the rainy days we visited the aquarium in Plymouth (fab), the Eden Project (amazing) and took a beautiful walk at Becky Falls. The children loved the heated outdoor pool and swam every day, rain or shine! They also loved the lake and the short walk through what they called the Jurassic jungle!

My 6 year old great nephew has asked to come back next year, which is about the best testimony you could ask for as he’s very discerning, lol! My husband and I have also talked about maybe a long weekend there, just the two of us, out of season so I’ll be in touch!

We loved the facilities and made good use out of the pool, table tennis, tennis as well as the grounds for running.
Our favourite beach was Thurlestone and we had an amazing pizza on the beach one evening. The girls enjoyed Salcome and we took the ferry to the beaches over the water, which we all enjoyed. Our favourite restaurant was The Ship Inn. We also found The Cali good and very welcoming on our arrival for lunch.

“I was going to email you today to say thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your holiday home, we had an amazing time.

We particularly enjoyed our time on Bantham Beach, where my sons had surfing lessons and we hired paddle boards. A fishing trip in Salcombe was also a highlight. We had beautiful weather nearly all week, but rain on our last day, thankfully the outdoor pool was still warm enough to use, so the boys were happy with that.

We enjoyed The Crabshell Inn, Woodys and The Ship Inn at Uggborough, all very good meals.

“.... we had a wonderful week at The Lodge, we have stayed at Colmer Estate before and it is by far the nicest property there ....... the lovely garden and privacy was very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed. All meals were eaten outside, fabulous! ! We took trips out in the mornings and visited Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Modbury, Salcombe, and went to the Chilli Farm, in the afternoons we played tennis and enjoyed the indoor swimming pool.”

The weather was kind to us, so we were able to have an adventure every day. We visited Dartmoor Zoo, Woodlands theme park, Trago Mill, Plymouth and Bigbury-on-Sea!
The pool and tennis courts were used daily!

“What a great cottage !! - we had fantastic time - enough room to have our family over. And our nieces loved the pool, as did we - the cottage provided everything we needed and we were sad to be leaving.

We really did have a wonderful time and as Jeff said we LOVED the Lodge! The food and service at the local pub “ The Cali” was great and it certainly was handy having the petrol station and the Spar shop right on the corner.
We really were quite sad to leave The Lodge, although we were looking forward to getting home to our own bed and pick up our cats! The pool was great and we really did explore and enjoy every inch of the Colmer Estate!!!”

“We had the most lovely Christmas at the Lodge …… the wood burner made it so cosy. There was a Christmas tree all set up, and every morning the room smelt of pine ! We made Christmas dinner in the well equipped kitchen - lots of fun time spent in the indoor pool - the walks are lovely and we went to the local pub - the local shop is well stocked. ”

“We had the most awesome stay at The Lodge for 4 nights. The grounds were stunning and the pool was a hit for our daughters (4 & 8) The Lodge is well equipped and so comfy ! We loved the log fire.”

“We found the Lodge very comfortable and it worked well for the ‘four’ of us. We did use the wood-burner on a couple of nights, when it seemed a bit chillier than usual, and it made the sitting room beautifully cosy. The new bathroom and cloakroom are wonderful, and we enjoyed using them. It really was like a home from home. All in all, we love Devon and really enjoyed our time there. I’m sure we shall be back at some stage, and will certainly recommend.”

“Thanks Rob and Nikki, we did truly have the most relaxing stay at the Lodge, a weekend away from the kids for my birthday was so special - we did think we should have brought the kids they would have absolutely loved it here, more than enough room for all of us.

The cottage was exceptionally clean on arrival and the welcome pack was very appreciated. We had a cream tea for breakfast! Worked it off on the tennis court and gym and swim afterwards!
We were very lucky with the unseasonal weather and had the most lovely day in Salcombe on our last day. I felt like I was in the South of France !”

“We had a lovely time, thank you, and were lucky with the weather. My personal favourite activity was a walk to Wonwell beach, starting from Kingston - a huge expanse of sand at low tide and the dogs loved it. Of course South Hams is a beautiful area and we went for many lovely walks locally.”

“Wonderful to find a dog friendly lodge that is superbly located for all that South Hams and Dartmoor has to offer. It was lovely and clean on arrival and very well equipped with everything you could need. Rob and Nicky very kindly left a hamper of tasty treats, including Easter Eggs for the children; a thoughtful touch. The Lodge is in the perfect spot opposite the warm Indoor Pool and next to the Walled Garden and has it’s own private garden and parking which was very handy. We liked the California Inn, just a five minute stroll down the lane and would highly recommend the The Ship Inn at Ugborough.”

The children used the pool, tennis court and table tennis every day and their Grandad has now gone back to work for a rest ! Hopefully we will be coming back to Colmer next year !

“In the main the weather has been glorious although we did have a couple of days where umbrellas were needed.
Been to Bigbury on Sea and Burgh Island a couple of times ( our favourite beach) Slapton, Salcombe and Kingsbridge. Had a few evening meals at the California Inn.
Colmer Estate is stunning. It has been really quiet this week, only seen 3 or 4 families. We really enjoyed our morning and evening walks around the estate with Maisie ....even met the estate gardener! Had swims in both pools. The Lodge was a home from home, it had all we needed for a relaxing holiday”

I would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Colmer. Our son and family stayed at the Lodge and really appreciated the accommodation, the BBQ was well used as the weather was good and our daughter in law being a chef, made use of the cooking facilities. The ladies in our party enjoyed a cream tea at the Cali and we all enjoyed a Chinese takeaway having ordered by phone from the Lodge as we couldn’t get a signal on mobiles. Our grandson Alfie was particularly excited on the last day as he landed a 3lb carp his first carp ever. The rest of our family had hired the Coachouse and all the children enjoyed the swimming and the tennis court and are keen to come back again”
